Concord Hymn Ralph Waldo Emerson Sung at the completion of the battle monument on April 19, 1836
By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to April's breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood, And fired the shot heard round the world.
The foe long since in silence slept; Alike the conqueror silent sleeps; And Time the ruined bridge has swept Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.
On this green bank, by this soft stream, We set today a votive stone; That memory may their deed redeem, When, like our sires, our sons are gone.
Spirit that made those heroes dare To die, and leave their children free, Bid Time and Nature gently spare The shaft we raise to them and thee.
FOURTH DAY OF JULY Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"
Today is special, do you know why? It's the 4th day of July. See the flags passing by. See the fireworks in the sky. It's a special celebration. It's the birthday of our nation.
Our will was strong, our want was great Let freedom reign, what better fate We journeyed long from Plymouth Rock The time was clear to end all talk That fateful fourth our courage showed Americans - and how we glowed We won the right to be self known Our independence, clearly shown The test of time has stood us tall Through bravest hearts, some forced to fall We’ll always cherish those we’ve lost Their gift to us, their total cost Today we face another foe And stand together, all do know Please often pray to God above He’s seen our hearts, He knows our love
Bleezer's Ice Cream I am Ebenezer Bleezer, I run BLEEZER'S ICE CREAM STORE, there are flavors in my freezer you have never seen before, twenty-eight divine creations too delicious to resist, why not do yourself a favor, try the flavors on my list:
I am Ebenezer Bleezer, I run BLEEZER'S ICE CREAM STORE, taste a flavor from my freezer, you will surely ask for more.
by Jack Prelutsky
The poem is actually a template, allowing each person to change the name of the store and their name into it, also offering opportunity for the kids to make up their own flavors, trying to make rhyming ones.
I know it's hard for you I guess that's the way it must be It's kinda rough on me, too but time is out now, don't you see?
The day has come now when I must tell you goodbye I'm going to manage somehow either to survive or to die
I'm leaving now don't ask me why I've got to get out of here I'll spread my wings and try to fly and if I fail I'll hit the ground and die
I put no blame on you but there's no way that I could stay I guess you already knew it is my independence day It is sad to grow up and see everything disappear but you can't make the world stop I've got to get rid of my fear I'm leaving now don't ask me why
I've got to get out of here I'll spread my wings and try to fly and if I fail I'll hit the ground and die
The little boat at anchor in black water sat murmuring to the tall black sky A white sky bomb fizzed on a black line. A rocket hissed it's red signature into the west. Now a shower of Chinese fire alphabets, A cry of flower pots broken in flames, A long curve to a purple spray, three violet balloons--- Drips of seaweed tangled in gold, shimmering symbols of mixed numbers, Tremulous arrangements of cream gold folds of a bride's wedding gown--- A few sky bombs spoke their pieces, then velvet dark. The little boat at anchor in black water sat murmuring to the tall black sky.
Fireworks, sparkling in the silvery sky Hot dogs roasting on the flaming fire Families all together, communicating together Smell of campfire all around Watching the fireworks in the sky Everyone around to say "Ooh and Ahh" After the fireworks are done, families make s'mores together The melting marshmallows, burning chocolate, and crispy graham crackers All together making everyone happy Fourth of July is a family celebrated holiday Making everyone come together and celebrate the joyous event That occurred over a hundred years ago A great time with family and friends!!
What a fun day! we all have to say. The best July 4th ever. From fireworks to picnic lunch, we sure did do a bunch. The memories we'll have forever. Spending time with family and friends, with whom the fun never ends. We celebrated the U.S.A today.
With our first fourth on that seventh month began A declaration of how we would forge our life In signature, John Hancock did lead by action The beginning of a nation which has firmly stood
As we stop to embrace our Independence Day We should reflect back from this sixth millennium year Looking to the many trials we have faced as a country Most vividly, to that infamous September morn
We have never, and never will succumb to threat Our rigid foundation is of, by, and for the people We heed the message of President John F. Kennedy It is what we do for our country that stands us tall
As good citizens we put our trust in God, and each other Under one flag we stand, united for all the world to see Our Stars and Stripes form the Old Glory we so revere And how gallant are those who march with our colors
As Americans, we hold freedom as a certainty Our bravest have given their all to this end If not for their willingness, we would not be The cost of liberty demands this commitment
So many have endured the precious loss of loved ones We must stay aware of the tragedy they live with For they, more than any, feel the total cost of sacrifice Praise their fallen heroes, they left freedom for us
My Dear Americans, as we take time to celebrate This independence held so deep in our hearts I hope that the following thoughts of America Bring forth emotion, for the USA that we love
We shall always be ‘the land of the free' We shall always be ‘the home of the brave’ We shall always hear ‘God Bless America’ We shall always love ‘Mom and Apple Pie’
Four children take a walk today. They see a pole with a flag on top. The flag is red and white and blue-- And when they see the flag, they stop. They say "I pledge" or promise. Allegience is loyality. Republic means our government. One nation under God, will be. Indivisble, not divided, And liberty means free. Justice for all means fairness. For all means you and me.
Americans be proud, Of our grand country. Let the flag fly high, Don't turn your back on it.
Be thankful for our freedom, Be thankful for all our rights. Be grateful that you live, in the beautiful U.S.A.
Show your proud ness with the flag, The great red, white, and blue. Hang it outside your house so everyone can see, That you're proud to be an American.
The Flag Goes By
ReplyDeleteHenry Holcomb Bennett
Hats off!
Along the street there comes
A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums,
A flash of color beneath the sky:
Hats off!
The flag is passing by!
Blue and crimson and white it shines,
Over the steel-tipped, ordered lines.
Hats off!
The colors before us fly;
But more than the flag is passing by.
Sea-fights and land-fights, grim and great,
Fought to make and to save the State:
Weary marches and sinking ships;
Cheers of victory on dying lips;
Days of plenty and years of peace;
March of a strong land's swift increase;
Equal justice, right, and law,
Stately honor and reverend awe;
Sign of a nation, great and strong
Toward her people from foreign wrong:
Pride and glory and honor,--all
Live in the colours to stand or fall.
Hats off!
Along the street there comes
A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums;
And loyal hearts are beating high:
Hats off!
The Flag is passing by!

ReplyDeleteDesigns In The Sky
(Frere Jacques)
Fourth of July, Fourth of July,
It is fun, it is fun.
A picnic in the park,
And then after dark,
Designs in the sky, Fourth of July.
Way up in the Sky...
(Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Wave, wave, wave the flag,
Hold it very high.
Watch the colors gently wave,
Way up in the sky.
March, march, march around,
Hold the flag up high.
Wave, wave, wave the flag,
Way up in the sky.
The Flag
ReplyDeleteLadies and gentlemen, I give you the flag
That flew over Valley Forge
Was torn in two by the gray and the blue
And bled through two world wars.
I give you the flag that burned in the street
In protest, in anger and shame,
The very same flag that covered the men
Who died defending her name.
We now stand together, Americans all,
Either by choice or by birth
To honor the flag that's flown on the moon
And changed the face of the earth.
History will show this flag stood a friend
To the hungry, the homeless and lost
That a mixture of men as common as clay
Valued one thing beyond cost.
And they've signed it in blood from Bunker Hill
To Saigon and Toko Ri.
I give you the flag that says to the world
Each man has a right to be free.

ReplyDeleteOne Nation Under God we live
Think about all some had to give
We the people share freedom’s life
In a world of ever present strife
Be grateful to those who keep this true
Warriors of our red, white, and blue
They're trained by those of great skill
Honed to perform, so strong their will
They show what love is all about
They’ll fight for us, there is no doubt
Defending bravely what we are
No holding back each heartfelt star
Highly praise these men and women
Giving thanks time and again
Those in uniform will always be
The golden pride of this country

Their Courage
ReplyDeleteby Roger Robicheau
Their courage deems utmost respect
Their mission clear, our way protect
It’s sure to each what they must do
No give or take, keep freedom true
With the grand old flag, they'll unite
Whenever they must, march to fight
A life we know counts hard on them
Without their ranks, hellish problem
If our Armed Forces ceased to be
How long could we survive as free
Let’s well realize the truthful score
We need our troops just like before
Boils down to this, words to engrave
Land of The Free, Due to The Brave
God Bless each one for being there
Their loved ones too, unending care
Hope born from love touches the will
Do back them strong, means to fulfill

4th of July Fireworks
ReplyDeleteIt’s that time of year again
We’re nearing the 4th of July
Nothing quite as pretty
As sparks against the sky
And that is what it means
Freedom it represents for us
A day to set aside
And to make a lot of fuss
We honor our independence
It’s what we have always fought for
And even though it’s never easy
To keep the enemies from our door
So picnics and bar-b-q’s are planned
To celebrate this special day
But stop a moment and remember
The meaning of the brilliant displays!

Old Uncle Sam
ReplyDeleteby Roger Robicheau
You all know me, I’m Uncle Sam
So gosh darn proud, oh yes I am
I’m for this country, all the way
But you knew that, I'll never sway
I've been around for quite awhile
Forget my age, I’m still in style
Like Yankee Doodle, yes siree
Like Troy, New York’s great history
I’m so proud Yankee Doodle’s kin
And proud what Troy for me has been
‘Twas Eighteen Twelve when all began
Too bad there was no cameraman
Our country fought its second war
We would prevail, just like before
Your Uncle Sam knows all too well
The facts are clear, war can be hell
Stay close to your Old Uncle Sam
I'm here for you, that’s what I am
We are the great Land of The Free
Thanks to those marching faithfully
Salute and thank the brave you see
Do not forget, they’re tops with me
America, stand up and cheer
Our forces keep our freedom clear
One Nation Under God we stay
This truth endures to greet each day
***
My time now draws to bid farewell
‘Twas grand to have you for a spell
Goodbye to you, each worthy friend
God Bless You, all my love I send
